The Amputee Coach is a must read for any lower limb amputee – whether above or below knee – as well as their family and friends.
It will unlock the keys to living the fullest life possible – physically, mentally and emotionally. There is life after amputation and by reading this book you will learn to walk well, be fit and enjoy life!
The book gives readers specific steps to take to improve their quality of life. While it focuses on physical specifics such as exercises to strengthen various muscle groups it also works on the mind and the attitude you need to achieve wellness. It dispels common myths about amputees and answers frequently asked questions from amputees and their families.
“Core stability, essential stretches, improving balance and keeping your heart healthy are all things we look at in the book. We’ve included many great clear photographs of the exercises, making it easy for any amputee to pick the book up and get stuck into it using the correct technique, which is so important,” says author Cathy Howells.
Life as a new amputee is likely to hold many setbacks, fears and frustrations and the authors address these to ensure they don’t block your road to health and a happy fulfilled life.
Regardless of whether you have recently become an amputee or it happened years ago and you feel you could be getting more out of life, this book has something to offer you. If you or an amputee you know has ever asked any of the following questions, then look no further for answers:
- How can I improve my balance so I can walk with greater confidence?
- What can I do so that I can walk, or even run, for longer distances?
- Why is my cardiovascular health so important now I’m an amputee?
- Is there anything I can do to improve how I feel about my situation in life?
- What sort of prosthesis is best for me?
