The Amputee Coach Book

In November 2008, we first had the idea of writing a book to help amputees.  We felt that there was a lack of information out there for people who experience amputation and that a book which highlights not only the physical component of health after amputation but also the mental and emotional component was important.

Writing of the book was complete by the end of April 2009 and then came the copy editing, typesetting and a number of other components that we did not understand were a necessity before we undertaking this journey.

In November 2009, we received the first copies of The Amputee Coach and promoted the book to the Rehabilitation Community including prosthetists and physiotherapist at the ISPO – International Society of Prosthetics and Orthotics -  Conference at the Gold Coast, Queensland Australia.

In 2010 we have promoted the book at a number of different events including:

  • Austpar Meetings – Australian Physiotherapists in Amputee Rehabilitation
  • an Amputee Education Forum for amputees in Brisbane in June
  • an Education Day for the Amputee Association in Sydney in October

The Amputee Coach is available online, at all good bookstores nationwide or may want to ask at your local prosthetic clinic.

Until nest time… Cathy Howells & Sandra McFaul
